- Local MP’s help keep the lines of communication open for WA grandparent carers.
- Huge Boost to Grandparents Rearing Grandchildren WA.
Prior to the state election in March, Jessica Stojkovski, Member for Kingsley recognised the need for GRGWA to have appropriate IT services and equipment.
The combined action between the Member for Joondalup, Emily Hamilton MLA and Jessica Stojkovski MLA meant funding was secured to provided GRGWA with the ability to communicate effectively with grandparent carers. This is a vital resource for the association and its members, who can now experience the benefits of a wider range of online support and services.
President of GRGWA Jan Standen, says, “with the rise in substance abuse, domestic violence, homelessness and mental health issues among young families, the need to keep our grandchildren safe and secure often falls on the responsibility of grandparents who then face second time parenting.”
GRGWA’s recent 50% growth in membership across metro and regional areas has led to an increased need for outreach services and support, most of which are only accessible online. The $16,000 funding from the McGowan Government has given GRGWA members the capacity to connect with other grandparent carers and support services across WA.
GRGWA would like to acknowledge Jessica and Emily’s ongoing support and involvement in delivering the vital pre-election grant funding.

CommentS by Jan Standen :
